FOB is useful only when the product, loading point and responsibilities are clear in the commercial documents. For an Indonesian coffee purchase, the strongest RFQ is one that connects the coffee specification with the shipment plan from the beginning.

1. Identify the exact product

State green or roasted coffee, Arabica or Robusta, preferred origin, process/grade requirements and the technical information your quality team needs. Avoid relying only on a broad phrase such as “premium Indonesian coffee”.

2. State the commercial volume

For PT Sumatra Jawa Soil green coffee, the current standard commercial MOQ is approximately one 20ft container, around 19 MT per origin. Roasted formats use different working MOQs depending on retail or HORECA configuration.

3. Decide whether a sample is required

Where appropriate, request and approve a sample before a larger order. The sample discussion should clearly identify the lot or commercial profile it represents.

4. Confirm packaging

For green coffee, 60 kg jute bags are standard in the current profile, with GrainPro available on request. Roasted coffee can use retail valve pouches or HORECA bulk bags depending on the order.

5. Confirm the FOB loading port

Possible ports in the current profile include Belawan, Tanjung Priok and Tanjung Perak. The final port depends on origin and shipment planning and should appear in the quotation.

6. List required documents before order confirmation

Tell the supplier about known destination requirements before the order is finalized. Seller-side documentation may include commercial shipment documents and, when applicable, phytosanitary or origin documentation. NIB is business registration, not a coffee quality certification. See the export documents guide.

7. Keep buyer-side import responsibilities clear

The importer should confirm destination permits, customs, taxes, local food/plant rules and any required registrations. These requirements vary by market and should not be assumed from a generic export checklist.

8. Request a current quotation

Once the specification and shipment brief are clear, send an RFQ for the current commercial offer.
