A strong B2B coffee specification should help two parties talk about the same product. It should not be a collection of numbers copied from a regional description. The most useful specification is the one tied to the actual lot being offered and its current supporting information.

Moisture

Moisture is one of the common parameters used in green coffee discussions. PT Sumatra Jawa Soil’s current general buyer-facing quality profile references moisture up to 12.5% for applicable offerings, but the value for a contracted lot should be confirmed during the commercial process rather than assumed for every coffee.

Defect count

Defect information helps define the physical quality expected by the buyer. The relevant defect basis and value should be clear in the agreed specification because generic terms such as “Grade 1” can still require a shared understanding of the applicable standard and lot.

Screen size

Screen size is another physical characteristic buyers may request. If a screen requirement matters to the intended roast or product, include it in the RFQ and ask for the current lot result where available.

Processing method

Processing is part of both traceability and cup expectation. The current portfolio includes methods such as Wet-hulled, Fully Washed, Natural and Honey depending on origin. Confirm the process listed for the actual offer.

Grade and origin

Grade and origin help categorize the coffee, but they should be read together with the rest of the specification. For example, the current portfolio includes multiple Arabica Grade 1 offerings and a Commercial Grade 1 Lampung Robusta, each with different published characteristics.

Cup characteristics

Flavor descriptions help buyers shortlist coffee but do not replace sample evaluation. Agricultural variation, roast and preparation can affect sensory results, so the buyer should use the appropriate evaluation process for the intended purchase.

Build a specification into the RFQ

Include the parameters that are genuinely required for acceptance instead of requesting every possible data point. For current supply, start with our green coffee page, request a sample where useful, and use the RFQ form to state the commercial specification.
